Is Mama-P laundry detergent safe for newborns?
Yes. Mama-P Laundry Detergent Sheets were formulated with newborn and infant skin in mind. Newborn skin is thinner, more permeable, and more reactive than adult skin, which means residues left in fabric by conventional detergents make direct contact with the most vulnerable skin barrier a baby has. Mama-P contains no SLS, no optical brighteners, no synthetic fragrance, and no MI — the four ingredients most commonly linked to infant skin reactions. The formula is fragrance-free and dye-free. Wash baby's clothes, sheets, and swaddles with confidence.
Does Mama-P contain SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate)?
No. SLS is one of four ingredients Mama-P deliberately removed. SLS strips the skin's natural lipid barrier, causing redness, itching, and dryness in anyone with sensitive or reactive skin. Mama-P uses coconut-derived surfactants (lauryl glucoside, coco-glucoside) that clean effectively without disrupting the skin barrier. You will not find SLS, SLES, or any sulfate-based surfactant in our formula.
Are Mama-P laundry sheets safe for eczema?
Mama-P was designed with eczema-prone skin as the benchmark. Eczema is characterised by a compromised skin barrier that is highly reactive to chemical residues, fragrances, and preservatives. Mama-P removes the four most common laundry-product triggers: SLS (barrier stripping), optical brighteners (permanent fabric-coating residues), synthetic fragrance (the #1 skin irritant in detergents), and MI (a known allergen).
What are optical brighteners and why did Mama-P remove them?
Optical brighteners coat fabric fibres permanently and do not rinse out. They remain in contact with skin every time you wear or sleep in washed fabric. For babies and children, this sustained chemical contact can cause skin reactions and photosensitivity. Mama-P does not use optical brighteners. Our sheets clean without leaving chemical residue on your fabric.
What is methylisothiazolinone (MI) and why did Mama-P remove it?
MI is a preservative used in detergents to extend shelf life. It is a known skin allergen — banned in rinse-off cosmetics in the EU — and still appears in many 'eco' brands. Mama-P's sheet format eliminates the need for MI: the low-moisture content of a dry sheet prevents microbial growth without chemical preservation.
How many loads does one sheet clean?
One Mama-P sheet = one full load. Available in 60, 120, 180, and 240-load packs. For heavily soiled loads use 1.5 sheets. For delicates or small loads, half a sheet is sufficient — the sheets tear cleanly along the centre.
Do Mama-P sheets work in all washing machine types?
Yes — top-loading, front-loading, HE, and combination washer-dryer units. Place the sheet directly in the drum with your laundry before starting the cycle. It dissolves completely in both cold and warm water. No pre-dissolving required.
